Biography

To many, Airport Impressions are the act who from a humble acoustic duo quickly evolved into a four piece top act filling outdoor venues with crowds of more then 5,000 people. After three years, and following the release of the album ‘Minutes Of A Lifetime’, the band has confirmed that was not a myth and that its future looks as bright as ever. This four piece band has already laid down its foundations in its homeland (Malta). It had started when Errol and Johann commuted between Malta, Ireland and Germany before they laid down their first studio track in 2008. This eventually evolved into the current four–piece line-up including Steve and Chris. In three years, these boys won not less than 8 local music awards including amongst other ‘best band’ and ‘best song’ awards. ‘Beside You’ was the first song released in March 2008 which instantly revealed their alternative/contemporary rock elements and showed the intensity of Errol’s voice and melodic details entwined in the band’s songwriting. The first EP ‘Seeing with eyes closed’ saw its popular release in August 2009. With their star then clearly in the ascendant, the band explored more defined alternative elements with their strong single ‘Borderline’, which when played lived still reaches an epic eerily feeling. Eventually this song was awarded song of the year at the Malta Music Awards in 2009.

By 2010 Airport Impressions had already immersed themselves as a top live act thanks to their well crafted tunes and engaging concerts. At times Errol’s faraway look on stage suggests he is completely submerged in the narrative of the songs. This was purely evident in the memorable album launch concert in October 2010 during the performance of the band’s soul-searching stomper Walk With Me. This powerful song has become the most instantly recognizable tune of the band. Meanwhile the highly demanded album ‘Minutes of a lifetime’ also features numbers like Elusive, Retro Star and Long Way Gone, all of which have soaring melodies that just keep growing until they reach ethereal proportions. No doubt live music has always been an integral part of the band’s appeal and lately Airport Impressions supported British singer songwriter James Blunt and performed at an event marking the inauguration of Stockholm’s Tierp Arena in Sweden.

The band has established itself as a strong act in its homeland and also started exporting its waves to foreign shores. Musically, Airport Impressions grew up as one of the most entertaining live acts around. Errol’s energetic and sometimes darker sounding guitar riffs blend well with the detailed twangy licks of guitarist Johann, and with their fact-oriented lyrics complement the massive sounds with a blend of dreamy music. Chris is a definite bouncy-bassliner with plenty of different, mostly alternative ideas to production of the songs, which is often countered by the systematic, 80s driven structure of the drummer, Steve.
